Ventilation Calculations

Example Calculation

  • 1,500 ÷ 150 = 10 sq ft total ventilation needed
  • 5 sq ft intake (soffit vents)
  • 5 sq ft exhaust (ridge or roof vents)

1. Blocked Soffit Vents

  • Cause: Insulation pushed against vents
  • Fix: Install baffles to keep insulation away

2. Insufficient Intake

  • Cause: Not enough soffit vents installed
  • Fix: Add continuous soffit vents or more individual vents

3. Mixed Exhaust Types

  • Problem: Ridge vents + turbines can short-circuit airflow
  • Fix: Use one type of exhaust vent consistently

4. Gable Vents Interfering

  • Problem: Gable vents + ridge vents can create cross-currents
